Temporary accommodation made easy

We know that it's stressful having your house repaired or rebuilt because of earthquake damage. Take some of the stress away by moving into a fully furnished house managed by Ruby Housing (formerly Christchurch Holiday Houses). Scroll down for alist of houses available...

The process

Here's our helpful step by step guide to getting your temporary accommodation sorted.

Step 1: Try and get a rough idea of when your repair or rebuild will be starting. With  houses across the Christchurch area there is every chance we can accommodate you, but the sooner you know your dates, the easier it will be to get a housein a suitable area.

Step 2: Contact your insurance company and ask them what your budget is for your temporary accommodation benefit on your insurance policy. Cross-reference this information with your policy documents. Depending on your policy and insurer, you mightbe offered a nightly rate, a weekly rate or a lump sum payout.

Step 3: Get approval from your insurance company to start looking for temporary accommodation quotes. This is usually as simple as calling your claim manager.

Step 4: Decide which area of Christchurch you would be prepared to move to temporarily. Proximity to workplaces and schools is important, but the wider you are prepared to cast your net, the more houses will be available for you.

Step 5: Contact us and let us know your dates, preferred location and number of bedrooms required.

Step 6: We will prepare a quote that you can send to your insurance company for approval. Or, if you give us the details of your claim manager, we can email the quote to them directly.

Step 7: Once the quote has been accepted, a deposit of one week's tariff will be required to secure your booking. This is usually paid by your insurance company directly into our account. Or, to speed the process up, you can pay us the deposit andthen claim the money back from your insurance company.

Step 8: A confirmation letter will be sent to you about 3 days before your stay begins. The letter contains all the information you need about accessing the property.

Step 9: Move into your fully furnished temporary accommodation!

Step 10: We will invoice your insurance company on a weekly basis for the cost of your stay. If you are required to pay any portion of the tariff (which can happen in some situations) we will also invoice you for your portion at the sametime.

Step 11: If power use is not included in the tariff, you will be invoiced for this at the end of your stay, based on the power used at the property.
